Alex Klein
Executive Director
For Alex, the path to mental health care started with a deeply personal journey. As a teenager, he overcame his own mental health challenges with the help of skilled, compassionate therapists, an experience that fueled his lifelong commitment to supporting others on their own paths to healing and self-discovery.
Alex holds degrees in psychology, English, recreational therapy, and clinical social work, offering a rare blend of clinical insight and creative thinking. His career began in a therapeutic school setting, where he lived and worked alongside youth navigating emotional and behavioral challenges. From teaching 8th-grade English to becoming a program director, Alex spent nearly two decades shaping therapeutic programs while staying closely connected to the individuals and families he served.
Now in the Farmington area, Alex brings his depth of experience to a community known for its strong family values, academic excellence, and close-knit neighborhoods. He understands the unique pressures families face, whether related to school performance, emotional resilience, or navigating life transitions, and his approach is grounded in collaboration, trust, and problem-solving.
Alex’s therapeutic style is both systemic and relational. He integrates evidence-based practices with a deep understanding of how families, schools, and communities interact. Over the years, he’s trained clinical teams, led crisis interventions, and developed wellness programs across Connecticut—all while maintaining his passion for direct client care, including work with adolescents, parents, and individuals facing anxiety, trauma, and life stress.
He believes therapy should be practical and empowering, focused on helping clients build the skills they need to thrive—not just in the office, but in their homes, schools, and communities. Whether he’s helping a teen manage social stressors, guiding a parent through a difficult family transition, or partnering with local schools and providers, Alex’s work is always rooted in the values of connection, clarity, and compassion.
In addition to founding The Shoreline Therapy Center in Guilford, Alex is expanding his work into central Connecticut to meet the growing need for accessible, high-quality mental health care in towns like Farmington, Avon, and Simsbury. He is especially passionate about serving families who value collaboration, academic support, and emotional resilience.
Outside the office, Alex is a devoted husband and father, an active community member, and an outdoor enthusiast. He has served as a firefighter, wilderness first responder, and crisis intervention trainer. He continues to lead therapeutic and service-based expeditions around the world, believing that shared experiences can build resilience, empathy, and lasting growth.
With over 20 years of experience, Alex remains deeply committed to walking alongside his clients, offering consistent, compassionate guidance through life’s challenges—and helping them build the confidence and connection they need to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
